Typical Umbrian Restaurant in Orvieto — Traditional Orvieto Cuisine at the Locanda

The Locanda's restaurant where traditional Umbrian cooking meets the family farm

Locanda Orvieto is the typical Umbrian restaurant in Orvieto where traditional Orvieto cuisine meets the family garden. Every dish is born from our family farm: handmade pasta, Piccione all'Orvietana, Umbrichelli al ragù di cinghiale and a cellar with over 250 Umbrian wine labels. This is authentic Umbrian cuisine — the kind passed down by grandmothers, not tourist menus.

The certainty of eating well in Orvieto.
We're not the ones saying it — thousands of guests are.

Our Philosophy

The Kitchen of Orvieto

We are a traditional restaurant in Orvieto, with four rooms above the dining room. The recipes are our family's: grandmother Maria's Piccione all'Orvietana, umbrichelli hand-rolled every day. What we don't produce ourselves comes from small local producers.

From handmade pasta, like Umbrichelli al cinghiale or tagliatelle al tartufo, to our signature dish — the Piccione all'Orvietana, a recipe handed down by Grandma Maria. Every dish tells a family story. We bring to the table only Km Zero ingredients — from our garden or small local producers.

This is our promise: an authentic experience, not a tourist menu.

The People

At Locanda Orvieto the cooking is in the hands of our family, and the recipes are the ones we grew up with. Every dish that reaches the table is the fruit of a tradition we know by heart, and a warmth that is sacred to us.

Food matters, of course. But they — the people — matter even more. Our staff is the true soul of the Locanda: people who know each other, trust each other and become a family. Behind it all, two brothers — Alessandro and Alessio — who opened the Locanda in 2019.

If you come back, it's because of them. If you stay, it's because of how they make you feel. — A TripAdvisor review

Frequently asked questions about the restaurant

Is the Locanda a place to stay or a restaurant?

Both — but in the right order. We are first and foremost a typical Umbrian restaurant, with a kitchen that works every day with products from our own farm. Our four rooms are an extra for those who want to stay over. The restaurant is open to everyone, with or without a room. You don't have to stay the night to come and eat.

What wines do you serve?

We have a cellar with over 250 labels — Umbrian, national, and international wines. Orvieto DOC is obviously available, but the wine list goes far beyond the local area. If you have preferences or are looking for something specific, let us know when you book: we always try to accommodate. For us, wine isn't just an addition to the menu — it's part of the meal.

What is the average cost?

It depends on what you order and what you drink. A full lunch — appetizer, first course, second course, water, and a glass of wine — is around 30 to 60 euros per person, depending on how much you eat and what you choose to drink. We aren't "cheap" in a low-cost sense, but the value for money is what the reviews confirm. No surprises on the bill: prices are clearly listed online too.

Do you handle intolerances and allergies?

Yes, within the limits of a traditional kitchen. Always let us know about any intolerances or allergies when booking — not when you arrive at the table. Since we work with handmade doughs and local seasonings, some ingredients are fundamental to the recipes. With advance notice, we can adapt; without it, it's harder to guarantee. Your safety comes first.

Are you open on Sunday evenings?

No. On Sundays we are only open for lunch; you can book your table from 12:00 PM until 2:30 PM. We are closed in the evening. If you're planning a Sunday visit, keep this in mind — and book a table: Sunday lunch is one of the most popular times of the week.

What payments do you accept?

We accept credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and cash. If you have questions about specific methods, call us first: +39 0763 344054.
