AUTHENTIC UMBRIAN CUISINE
Typical dishes of Orvieto, served at the Locanda
Traditional Umbrian cuisine, Grandma Maria's recipes, the Orvieto tradition within the regional tradition.
Umbrian cuisine is made of a few ingredients treated with respect. No complex sauces, no elaborate presentations. Black truffle, norcineria (cured meats), game from the Apennine woods, and fresh hand-rolled pasta. A direct, essential, deep cuisine — just like the character of this region.
At Locanda Orvieto we bring traditional Orvieto dishes to the table, the result of typical local cooking handed down by grandmothers. No shortcuts, just home-style gestures, real ingredients, and time.
“True cooking cannot do otherwise.”

You've already seen the dishes above. Here we'll answer what the cards don't say — the practical things people ask us before booking.
Are the ingredients really local?
Yes — and it's not just a marketing slogan. The Locanda has its own farm with 500 olive trees, 300 fruit trees, and 10,000 sqm of vegetables. The meats come from small local producers we know personally. We know exactly where every ingredient we put on the table comes from.
Does the menu change according to the season?
The five signature dishes — Piccione, Baffo, Agnello, Umbrichelli, and Tagliatelle al Tartufo — are available year-round. But side dishes and seasonal specials change with what the land provides. True cooking cannot do otherwise.
Can I find these dishes in other restaurants in Orvieto?
Umbrichelli can be found in other restaurants too — they are part of the tradition. But making them truly by hand is another thing entirely. The Piccione all'Orvietana in 3 cooking methods and the Baffo all'Orvietana with tomato, however, are practically impossible to find. They are family recipes that few people still prepare.
Do I need to book or can I just show up?
Booking is highly recommended. Seats are limited and some dishes require long preparation times. Without a reservation, you risk not finding a table or the dish you were looking for. You can book your table here.
Can I also sleep at the Locanda after dinner?
Of course. We have 4 rooms dedicated to the monuments of Orvieto: St. Patrick's Well, Torre del Moro, the Duomo, and Palazzo del Capitano. Typical dinner + family room + free parking = the complete package.
